At IQRA Academy we believe that good attendance is central to a pupils’ academic achievement and personal development. Put simply, if your child is not in school, they are not learning and will fall behind their peers.
We expect all our pupils to be in school on time. Late children miss vital learning. Regular lateness will result in a penalty notice issued by Bradford Council.
If your child is absent from school, you must inform the school before 9am and providing a reason for your child’s absence.
If an absence is unreported or the absence is prolonged, you will receive a home visit from our Attendance Officer.
All pupil medical, dental and optical appointments should be made outside of school time. Only emergency / hospital appointments will be approved by school and appointment cards/letters will be required for authorisation.
We need your support in ensuring that holidays are not taken during school time so your child has every opportunity to succeed.
The Department of Education guidance instructs Principals NOT to authorise leave of absence in term time. Permission for this type of absence should only be granted in the most exceptional circumstances. It is for Principals to determine what are ‘exceptional circumstances’ and apply these consistently and equitably. The law says that parents do NOT have the right to take their children out of school for holidays during term time.
If you want to request leave for your child at any time, you must seek permission from the Principal. You will need to complete a form which is available from the office. You can also access the form by clicking the document below (Please print it out and complete). This must be done at least 4 weeks before booking your trip. You will then be informed of the decision.
As of 1 April 2023 new rules regarding Extended Leave come into force.
Penalty notices will be issued if:
• Your child is persistently absent or late
• You take your child on holiday during term time without the Principal’s permission
If you have any questions regarding attendance, please contact Mrs Qadim (Attendance and Admissions Officer) on 01274 773350 - Option 1
