Pupil Premium & Sports Premium

Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium is a vital source of additional funding provided to publicly funded schools in England, designed to support disadvantaged pupils in reaching their full potential and ensuring they thrive alongside their peers. This includes pupils eligible for free school meals, those in the care of the local authority, and children of armed service personnel.

At IQRA Academy, we are committed to ensuring that every pupil makes excellent progress from their starting points, regardless of their background or other challenges they may face. Our pupil premium strategy is centred on unlocking potential, using high-quality teaching, targeted support, and enriching wider opportunities to create the best possible outcomes for our pupils.

We have the highest aspirations for our children and firmly believe that success comes from a love for learning and a strong work ethic. Many of our pupils experience experiential deprivation, with limited access to opportunities beyond their immediate community. We are dedicated to providing them with the tools, experiences, and confidence they need to excel academically and personally, ensuring they develop the knowledge and skills to thrive in an ever-changing world.

Our school is a vibrant learning community, with most pupils coming from Pakistani heritage and speaking English as an additional language. We serve an area that, while facing economic challenges, is rich in culture and has a strong sense of community. As a school situated in one of the most deprived areas of the UK, we recognise the importance of fostering high aspirations and broadening horizons. Many of our pupils will be the first in their families to pursue higher education, and we are committed to supporting them on this journey.

The impact of COVID-19 has been profound, particularly for our community, where large families and limited access to wider experiences have presented additional barriers to learning. However, we remain focused on accelerating progress and closing gaps, ensuring that every child develops strong foundational skills from the very start of their education. By fostering a nurturing and ambitious environment, we are empowering our pupils to dream big, achieve their goals, and build a bright future.

FREE SCHOOL MEALS

You can check your child’s eligibility for Pupil Premium or continued free school meals through Bradford councils online system.

You will need to enter your name, address, national insurance number or asylum support service number.  In addition, you will need to provide your child’s name, date of birth and identify the school they are attending.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Parents/guardians in England do not have to pay for school meals if they receive any of the following:

  • Income Support

  • Income-Based Jobseeker’s Allowance

  • Income related Employment and Support Allowance

  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

  • Child Tax Credit, provided they are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income (as assessed by HM Revenue & Customs) that does not exceed £16,190

  • Working Tax Credit ‘run-on’ – the payment someone may receive for a further four weeks after they stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit

  • Guarantee element of State Pension Credit

Pupil Premium is an important payment for schools and a really good opportunity for eligible parents to get even more support for their children in schools.

If you think your child may possibly be eligible for free school meals, even if you don’t want your child to eat school meals, please apply online. Every child who is eligible generates valuable funding. If you need assistance applying please contact the school office where we will be happy help.

We strongly encourage all eligible parents/carers to apply for this status. No one will know who has registered and it will not affect any other benefits being claimed.

Any children who are entitled to free schools meals, whether they take them up or not, means that our school is given extra funding to help support our pupils needs.

Sports Premium

The government once again provided extra funding with the aim to improve the Physical Education (PE) and Sports programs offered by primary schools. Although the funding is allocated to primary schools it is ‘ring fenced’ – this means it can only be spent specifically on PE and Sport in schools.
